Winter Time News

Hi Everyone!
Its hard to believe we're into 2012. I'm so excited to see what God shows all of us this year!

How was Christmas for all of you? We had a relaxing Christmas, filled with lots of family time, which was great! :)

I admit, I was rather sad to see the holidays come and go, but now I'm really excited to see all that God's doing as we begin the new year. There are some new things coming up! We girls have been seeking God about desires and decisions as we are getting older. Life is full of challenges, but God is always faithful!

Below are some pics from a family gathering we had with a bunch of the Z relatives right after Christmas. It was a really special time, since it had been quite a while since we'd all seen each other! Hope you enjoy them. :)

Happy Birthday to our dear sis CHLOE! Who turned 20 on July 2!

On the Eva of her Birthday we had a little party with cake and presents! Then on her birthday morning us four older girls and mom went and got breakfast and coffees to have well we watched 'Wimbledon' at our Grandmas house! So fun! After that we went to our favorite store 'Kohl's' for a fun time of shopping!

Last Saturday was Annie's Graduation open house! It was a amazing day! It didn't rain(thank you Jesus!) and a lot of our friends and family were able to come. :D Now three of the Zgals are High school graduates! Wow! Were all so old! Hey, look what crawled out of the woods into OUR pond! This gal has been livin in our pond for a year now, and we've never gotten more than a glimse of her when she would rise to the surface of the water. TODAY however, I noticed that our Shelties were looking very startledly at the edge of the woods, and when THIS Mama (she was probably laying eggs in there) popped out, they went nuts barking. I started SHOUTING for Gideon, and before you knew it, 10 kids were surrounding this turtle at a nervously safe distance. A camera with *zoom* got some great photos.

So!

We thought about catching it, but decided to just let her go back to the pond.

I was writing in my journal last night about what my latest download from the Lord had been, and I decided to share it with you.

OBEDIENCE IS THE KEY

Obeying God proves your faith in Him and your love for Him. It is the key to you knowing God. (1st John 2:3) It is doing God's will, and therefore it unlocks all the blessings God has promised in His Word!

What do you do when you feel like you're always failing to obey? Fight the good fight! Take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God! Philippians 4:13 -- "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

ALL THINGS! Christ will strengthen us to obey.

We celebrated my birthday party on the 4th of May and it was delightful! To make May 5th (my REAL date of birth) more festive, mom decided to fix a second cake, with fresh strawberries. :-) YUM!

The other pictures are from Mother's Day! Our wonderful Grandma Pfeiffer and Aunt Jeanne were able to come over for a banana-blueberry pancake brunch that day. Soon after we all finished eating, we headed out to watch John Michael play his baseball game. The weather was totally amazing!

MARCH 31ST, 2011~John Michael's Birthday!

Our awesome brother John Michael turned 10 this year! First time in the BIG.... DOUBLE DIGITS!! He was especially excited this year because he had two parties! One here at our house which we celebrated a few days before his actual birthday (March 31st) and a second party up North at our Grandma and Grandpa's house on his real birthday. Double the fun! He's such a wonderful brother and we're so blessed that God put him in this family!

Maple Syruping Season

Our family has this thing for being out at the woods on a gorgeous sunny day in March, boiling down the sap that has been tapped and collected from the maple trees to make maple syrup.

There's nothing like it.

Our aunt and uncle started tapping the maple trees years ago and it has been a special tradition ever since that many family members & friends have been able to experience.

First you must hike around with your "gathering bucket" to each tree to retrieve the sap that's been collected under each spout. Every once in a while you plunge your hand into a bucket or hold it under a spout to take a delicious drink of the cold, frosty sap fresh out of the tree. It tastes like the most refreshing water with a hint of sweetness. It's something so perfectly fresh from God's creation.

After the sap is collected it gets poured into the boiler, a fire is started underneath, and then the boil starts! It takes hours to boil down the sap. The ratio of sap to syrup is ~ 40gal/1gal. Some might think it's not worth all the time and effort, just for a little "sugar." They're wrong.

It's worth it.

My favorite thing to do is to stand by the hot boiler and put my face in the steam rising off the sap and breath in the sweet, woodsy smell. Sure it might make your hair frizzy and sticky but who cares! It's a great spot to stand and stay cozy in the slightly chilly March air.

There are always the best snacks to be had in the cabin after working up an appetite from all the trudging around. We roast hot dogs (The kids even tried roasting their grapes and apples. Yep, you're allowed to do that sort of thing. Ew...But they loved it!) and eat lots of potato chips and have donuts and M&M's. No, we don't pay attention to eating healthy at the woods. We'll just go run around or take a hike to burn it off afterwards.

Snacks are part of being out at the woods.

Finally, at some point and very often in the late evening hours the sap has boiled down to syrup and is ready to be poured off through a filter and into a glass jar or some other type of sterile containment. You don't want anything to affect the flavor of the fresh, hot syrup...We then bundle our tired, but happy selves up and carefully take our maple syruping booty home with the memories of a beautiful day on our minds.

There's nothing like homemade maple syrup. We have to be careful not to like it too much. :)

And yes, wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, I am actually doing a post. This is what you get when I get a snow day! Blessings!!

Sticky Date Pudding!!

This evening, Chloe and I endeavored to make a special dessert that a dear friend made a year ago. It's called Sticky Date Pudding in Australia! Here in America we'd probably call it a date cake, with butterscotch sauce. You serve it warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and pour the hot, simmering sauce over top of it! The ice cream melts 'just so' and the cake is a warm, soft treat! Mhm . . . we were nervous about how it would turn out, but were thrilled when it ended up tasting very like Loretta's!

Everybody thought it was so neat!

These pictures are from when we got Skype downloaded to our own computer and were talking with our Australian friends for the first time in nearly a year! Oh! How lovely it was!

This evening I began baking the first of many Christmas goodies that will be for our Zielinski family Christmas party this Saturday! It's coming up fast and we're really excited! I saw a pretty picture of a gingerbread cookie on the cover of a Baker's catalog and decided I wanted to make some! So here's photos of the batch I made and hopefully they'll make it safely to Saturday without getting eaten! (The picture of the candy canes are just . . . well, they looked Christmasy and added to the "festive flare" of the post! :D)

We've been getting out our violins and flutes and practicing glorious songs of old to perform for Christmas! On Elizabeth's 16th birthday, our good friend Rachel came over to practice with us! And may I say: "Two violins are better than one!" =D It was simply a blast!

You can go on a hay ride,make a candle,pan for gold,feed the animals,and learn how to rope. Little kids can go on a old west wagon train ride! All the workers dress up in old-west clothing! So it's a lot of fun to work at!

Chloe is Nineteen!!

On the second of July, our fabulous sister Chloe turned 19 years of age! We had a mid-day luncheon for her, with turkey and ham on soft croissants, jello, fruit salad and home made chocolate cake! It was a bash!

That evening we girls went to set up for a craft show we were doing the next day. We drove far out into the country, and it was a beautiful night, so we didn't mind that we lost our way a time or two. =D

Tomatos at last!!

Hello folks! Thought I would blog a few pictures about are garden, as it's been something I've been having a lot of fun with lately!

Linds and I dug the whole garden plot out of our lawn, with shovels! Then, because of our budget during this economy, (lol) we couldn't easily get a load of dirt to fill in the ground, so we shook each and every piece of sod, and beat them for all they were worth...to get the dirt out. (Yes...hours and hours and hours) A few cheap sacks of peat moss and one precious bag of manure (ah-hahaha!!)... and we were set!

We planted tomatos, canteloupe, pickling cucumbers, and green beans! Yay! They are all growing well and it's exciting! I was soo hoping it would work out for us to have a garden because we haven't done it for a couple years!

So praise the Lord! Maybe I'll update this subject during the harvest season! :)

Just something to think about... ...in every day things...

Is my mind fixed on Him above all else?

Hi girls!

I know I haven't posted in ages, (which I know has been greatly disappointing to you all! Ha ha) but I felt God lay something on my heart the other day, and I thought I would share it.

This has become one of my 'life' verses: "Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, no more can you unless you abide in me." John 15:4

It was hitting me the other day, just what it means to ABIDE in Christ. To rest in Him...to dwell with Him...to be with Him. I found myself asking, 'do I abide in Christ? How much is He really on my mind? How often is He in my thoughts?' When I'm praying or reading His word, I'm 'abiding' in Him I guess-- but what about all the in between times? Running errands, cleaning the bathroom, watching the kids outside--just the daily stuff? Honestly, many times I just allow my mind to fill up with other things. Fun things I want to do, the book I'm in the middle of reading, etc. I was thinking, "boy, does God really expect us to be able to just have Him continually in our thoughts? Life gets busy ya know!" but I really believe that for one, God DESERVES to have the number one place in our minds. Number two, if the things we're involved in are constantly filling our minds up with stuff that distracts us from the Lord (movies, books, activities, etc.) we may want to consider replacing those things with things that are glorifying to the Lord. And thirdly (and this is just SO awesome!!), I've found that the more time I invest in God's word and spending time with Him, the more I WANT to spend time with Him. You just have to do it and see for yourself! Jesus wants a relationship, and just like any friendship, it blossoms as you devote time to it.

I want to have Jesus at the forefront of my mind, and not in the back! He deserves our best energies, and He deserves GLORY. He deserves to be the CENTER of our lives!

Keep seeking Him above all else, :)

And we all played some great games of Volleyball, all us Zielinski just love that game! And we all are in the mood to play more now!(we didn't get any pictures of it sorry)!

Yesterday we went to a Bridal Shower for the daughter of a woman that goes to our church! We played Bridal Shower 'Bingo' and a few other games too. It's always neat to go to those things! We had wonderful weather too, it was like 80 F out the whole day!!!!(sorry we didn't get more pictures of the shower!) Before that Lindsey and I did our nails! It was really fun using these nail flower thingys we had gotten!(I had fun taking pictures of it all too!). :D

So a few days ago, I put on a white skirt and was just delighted with the pure beauty of it! If you want to feel lovely and feminine put on a flowing white skirt and walk around outside on a sunny day! (Obviously this is a just-for-girls post! ) Do it just because! It is so delightful!

Liz and I decided to do a little white skirt photo shoot so the other evening we walked around the property and had fun with the camera! Enjoy the pictures and have a beautiful week!

Some Bread?

8 Lovely loafs of bread!

I was quite happy with how they all turned out. :D

Yesterday I had to make our weekly batch of bread. So I started it and left the first part to rise. Later when I came back to check on it I was in distress because what I saw before me! Half of all my bread almost dough I should say (because it wasn't dough yet) had risen over!!!!!! AW! So when I added the rest of the flour it only would make a nuff for 3 loafs of bread!(that's quite a loss when you were supposed to have 6 loafs!). So with a heavy heart I started another batch of bread. :) But all ended well because I was over joyed with how the loafs turned out! They didn't even look real! lol

Meet Lindsey!

Hey everyone it's Lindsey! I think I was supposed to write this post a long time ago...heh, heh,..so yeah anyway, I suppose I'll tell you a little bit about me although since lots of you already know me it'll be more like an update than an introduction. :)

Currently I'm taking classes at Mid Michigan Community College in Harrison, MI (a.k.a. MMCC). I am nearing the end of my second semester...yay! Three more weeks to go!...and my classes have mostly been prerequisites for the Nursing Program. My hardest ones have been the Biology classes which is really too bad since a LOT of Bio is required for the program. But anyhow, it's all going fairly well and I'm praying about what God wants me to do next fall!

Some other things I enjoy doing are the normal recreational stuff such as reading, watching movies, shopping, arts and crafts, music (piano playing), baking, and my newest favorite thing....PHOTOGRAPHY! (I'm taking a photography class as an elective this semester and it's been quite fun!)

I'm not sure what else to include in this post but I would just like to say that above all, Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection on the cross are the most important thing in my life!! Learning to seek Him more and to love and know my Savior more is my highest priorities. I want my life to always center around my awesome, one and only Lord, Jesus Christ!!!!

Hopefully I will be blogging a bit more, now that Liz has shown me how all this works!! She has done such a good job updating this blog the last few months!

We all had a lot of fun up north on our spring break! So many wonderful memories! Even though our dear Chloe and Annie weren't able to come with us we still had a great time!(they are down in TN helping with the Above Rubies ministry).Well up there we took lots of walks, watch movies, saw our wonderful grandpa and grandma Zielinski, and had a blast! One of the days we there was so hot that we would of gone swimming if it had been summer! But the lake was way too cold! :D I hope you all had a wonderful spring break too!

What a bast Lindsey, Gideon and I had for the first time skiing yesterday! I always thought it would be sooo scary and hard but it was one of the funnest things I've ever done! =D Some people from our church and other people new went which was sooo fun too! One of my good friends Rachel freisen showed Lindsey and I how to do it and then we went on from there. :) There something about flying down those hills that is like nothing else I've never done! I can't wait to do it again!!!

Tennis Tournament

(this was the 3ed day) L-R My aunt,uncle, Chloe, Me,Annie,mom,Lindsey and my grandma. This was the day before Chloe and Annie left for TN. We all had a really fun time!

(secant day)Well lets see....all the adults are my aunts and uncles except for my grandma, my brother Jacob is right by me and my brother john is back there with all them. This was a really fun night! My two brother and I went to the tournament with my aunt. We got the best ice cream and the tennis was really good too!(I also caught a ball sign by one of the players!!)

About two weeks ago there was a woman's pro tennis tournament in Midland! I was able to go to 3 nights which was sooo fun!

Beulah Mead! Beautiful woman, beautiful teaching!

Our pastor and his wife Beulah Mead hosted a day for Christian ladies to come hear about Jesus! We all learned about the Life we have inside us that is NOT OUR OWN! When we deny the attitudes of our flesh, that Life is able to come out of us and it's BEAUTIFUL!
It was a really blessed time and they served both breakfast and lunch. And the whole thing was free!! In the back of the hall they had stands of homemade purses and jewelry and cards and all sorts of fun things that ladies love to shop for! :)
The pastor's son's Christian music band 2nd Mile gave a concert at the very end! Fun day! Praise the Lord!

Christmas at Grandmas

Merry Christmas ever one!!!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas this year!!! I sure did!

We had a wonderful time at our grandmas P's yearly Christmas party this year(Dec 19)! Being around all moms family at this time of year is such a joy because some of them we don't get to see very often.

Play-Dough

Today I made homemade play-dough for my two youngest sisters, Sophia and Angelise. It's very fun to make homemade - especially in winter-because the play-dough is hot, and is like a massage to the hands. Mom used to make it for us older girls when we were little. :)

The Recipe Is:

1 cup water

1/2 cup salt

1 Table-Spoon vegetable oil

2 tea-spoons cream of tartar

several drops of food coloring

1 cup of white flour

And away you go! Heat the first 4 ingredients in a pan on the stove until it boils (stirring constantly) . . . take it off the heat and mix in the food coloring. Stir fast as you add the flour and then scoop out onto a floured counter and knead for a minute or two. (It will be hot, but your hands will adjust)

There you have it! Fun fun fun! I would advise using red or green food coloring . . . I tried to make a nice yellow play-dough but it ended up not yellow at all. Just the color of butter cookies. The food coloring won't stain your hands.

Last night Lindsey, Jacob, John and I went to Little Dicken's Christmas with our grandma!

It was really fun! We went to a little restaurant for dinner and we saw the Mount Pleasant Christmas parade(it was one of the longest parades I had ever seen)!

Though we all got Very cold it was still lots of fun! And it felt very much like a Christmas movie with perfect amount of snow falling the whole time and with the buzz of people around us.

God blesses us far more then we deserve!

I just wanted to encourage all you girls to READ GOD'S WORD every day.

Its easy to think sometimes, that 'Oh, yeah you know its good to read the Bible, I mean, its a good thing to do' without really remembering just how powerful it is, and how much our spirit NEEDS God's word just like our physical body needs food. The word of God is powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart! It builds and strengthens our faith, it gives encouragement and guidance. I know you've heard all this said before, but its easy to forget just how vital the word of God is to our walk with him!

Remember today that it IS powerful. When you open it up and start reading, read with the mindset that these are the words of God, which we have the privilege to read in our own homes. If your faith is being tried, if you're feeling discouraged, run to the Lord--open his word. You will be encouraged. God wants to speak to you, and he wants fellowship with you.

He LOVES you and me in an amazing way! No matter what we're going through here on this earth, He deserves our praise and devotion.

What a fun day we all had last Friday!

Stewed Pumpkin

Hey! I thought I'd share with ya'll a little bit of my experience stewing pumpkin!

Really though . . . all I'm sharing is pictures and my recipe. So. There are the pictures. Here are the steps I take to achieve that steaming orange mass, and one stuffed jar of pre-Thanksgiving goodies:

I choose a pumpkin from the many decorating our deck out the front door, then I wash the outside to get all the dirt off. Next I get the biggest knife in the drawer and with some effort, cut the pumpkin in half, scoop all the "stuff" out, and then cut it into fifteen or so large chunks. After this, my hands are already sore, 'but with the prize before my eyes, I find the strength to press on' :) I carefully remove the crust. The skin. The rind. And chop the peeled pieces into cubes, toss em into a huge pot, add a little water and it simmers for two hours, and after that I stir it often for four more hours or so.

Into a jar it goes and voila! You will want to then cook the seeds you scooped out, and make pumkin muffins!

It also makes a very yummy tasting pie! Praise the Lord for all things homemade!

Our Bright Lights Group

Jesus is the Light!

For the past few weeks, we've had the blessing to join with some other girls on Wednesdays to encourage one another in the Lord! In a world of darkness, JESUS is the light. As followers of Christ, we want to be bright lights!

Our Bright Lights group usually consists of reading from our devotional book and listening to an accompanying CD, then discussion, a book reading, and prayer time! We also have been working on some crochet projects, and hope to make some things that we can donate to whoever God lays on our heart. Our times together have been blessed!

If you're ever able to join us, please do! Girls of all ages are welcome!

I went to my Grandma P. House today!

Mom was going to do my Grandams hair and some of us kids went with her one of them being me!

In my Grandmas back room there's this dress up box full of old clothes and memories, I hadn't looked in there in years so I thought I would peak through the old stuff. I saw all this stuff I remember wearing when I was really little! then I came across something I never remembered wearing before! It was one of those black graduation hats! I thought 'wouldn't it be funny to come out wearing that'!!! So I looked through the box again in search of a black something to wear with it, until I came across the graduation black cape that went with it! No way! I put it on took a look in the mirier and went out to show my mom,Grandma and Chloe. They all laughed! Then one outfit led to the next one! I tried to make them more and more funny! It was so much fun!

I am not to old to do that any more am I?

So my two words to you are you're never too old to play dress up and never try to beat my brother Gid at ping pong! It won't happen =) Believe me I've tried many times!(Yes I played ping pong today!) (Yes with Gid)

Prayer Power

God helps us do things that would normally be impossible!

How powerful is prayer?

I've often asked myself this, especially in situations where I so badly want God to come through. I'll be pleading with the Lord to please, please give answers, wisdom, or simply a CHANGE. And then I'll wonder, 'how much do my prayers really matter in this situation?'

Well, one thing I know for sure is that GOD is GOD, and he is more powerful than we can imagine!! The Bible says to pray to God and he will answer, and that the 'fervent effectual prayers of a righteous man availeth much.' The Bible is TRUTH, and so I fully believe that if we stand on these promises and pray IN FAITH, than our prayers can be powerful!! Yes, I believe it.

Something that can encourage us in prayer, is simply taking a minute to re-call the past experiences where we've seen God answer our prayers. One time I was praying about something that I was feeling desperate about, and I my faith was indeed feeling no larger than a mustard seed. I was wondering, 'how can I be sure that you will answer, Lord?' And then I asked myself, 'have I seen God come through in impossible situations before?' The answer was YES! As I thought about it, I recalled a number of times when God had come through and done miraculous things. My faith was suddenly strengthened, and hope sprang up in my heart.

God DOES hear. He DOES answer.

Praise his name!!

FUN FALL

This has been a very fun fall for me!

One of the reason why is that I've had the opportunity to work at a Old West Harvest Fest in Coleman the past few weeks. It's been sooooooooo fun! The people who own it are like the nice's people ever, and the work you do is not work at all! It's pure fun!

You get to dress up in old west 1800's clothes and you help kids do different things like make candles and pan for gold! You also work the concession

which fun too.

So you could say that I can't wait until next weekend! To do it again!!!

Hi! I'm Chloe, and the best thing that's ever happened to me is Jesus Christ--He's the best thing in my life; he is my life!
I love being a part of the family God's placed me in. The challenges are big, but so are the blessings.
Some of my favorite things that I love: reading a GOOD book, drawing, writing, playing and listening to music, rain-storms, crackling fires, crashing waves, and spending time with the people I love!
Some specifics: For books I like real-life inspirational, adventure, and mystery. When it come to drawing, my favorite subject is people. (If you want me to have a crack at your portrait, let me know!) I love praise and worship music, Celtic, and Classical.
My plans for the future involve this: God's plan. I want to be exactly where he wants me in life, I want the best he has for me, and I want to be in the center of his plan. Right now I feel like that's where I am, and I'm so thankful!

Hello! I'm the third child, third girl in the family.

My occupation is being a servant of God, and He has given me the responsibility of being an older sister and a daughter in this home.

I am a sinner, and have the need to take communion in the saving, cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. I have given Him all I have (my life on this earth) to use as He pleases.

When God created me He planned me to have these passions and interest by the time I reached age 16:

A desire to fulfill Christ's plan for my life and know Him better day by day, a love for big families and a vision to be a joyful wife and mother someday, a delight at the very mention of babies, an enjoyment of writing, reading, crafting (crocheting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking . . .) an ability to play the piano and the violin to a small degree, a great interest in dogs (check out my dog-blog http://www.annz-sheltieland.blogspot.com/), a love of long-pretty skirts, historical fashion, an iced-coffee-tooth somewhere in my mouth and so many other things.You might say Joy is my favorite fruit of the spirit! My favorite books are humorous ones!! (big grin)

And what do you know? Here I am today, just like the Lord planned!

Hi! I am liz! the fourth girl and child!

I am 14 years old right now but my birthday is Dec 1th 1994.(can't wait!!!)

Some of the things I enjoy are shopping,reading,going places,spending time with friends and family,cleaning/organizing, (Ya I know a little out there.)pretty girly things,crafting and a lot lot more!
I can play the piano to extent and I am teaching my self to play the flute! Very hard but fun!

I think being part of a big family is so cool! It's amazing where God puts us in this world! So many people and so many different types of family's and God chose to put me in this family!
what a blessing!

My goal in is to get closer to Jesus and to live my life for him and to obey him in every area in my life! So hard but so good!
